This past week I had the opportunity to be in North Carolina serving in domestic ministry. Exactly one year ago, on September 27, 2024, a hurricane swept through North Carolina, leaving behind devastation that deeply affected countless families and communities, including those in and around Black Mountain. Even though a year has passed, the impact is still felt every day. Many families are still trying to recover and rebuild.

Our team spent the week helping with rebuilding projects and repairing homes that were damaged in the storm. Some families lost nearly everything, and it was humbling to step into their stories and be a small part of their journey toward restoration.

It was not just about putting up walls or cabinets, it was about bringing encouragement and reminding people that they are not forgotten. Every nail hammered, every board replaced, and every hour spent working was an opportunity to show God’s love in action. We got to help transform houses back into homes, spaces that can once again hold laughter, meals shared, and families thriving together.

I not only had the opportunity to help rebuild homes, but I was also able to take time to pray over the house I was working on and the family it belonged to. As I stood there, I prayed that this space would not just be a shelter, but a place filled with peace, joy, and God’s presence. It was a powerful reminder that while building walls and installing cabinets are important, what truly transforms a house into a home is the love and hope that fills it. It was such a blessing to know that the work of our hands was paired with the covering of prayer.

This week reminded me that missionary does not always mean going across the world. Sometimes it means showing up right here at home, meeting needs that are still so great in our own country. I left North Carolina thankful for the chance to serve and even more aware of how important it is to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever He leads, whether that’s rebuilding homes in Black Mountain or offering hope to someone in my everyday life.
